BRENHAM CITY COUNCIL APPROVES SEVERAL PURCHASES

Brenham City Council approved several purchases by the city during their meeting Thursday afternoon.  Council approved the purchase of a new server environment equipment for the IT department.  The new equipment will replace the 7 year old servers currently used by the city and will be purchased from Dell for $86,000.  City IT Manager Kevin Schmidt said it was important that the servers be reliable because all of the city’s departments utilized them.

Council also approved the purchase of a new trailer for the Sanitation Department for $70,000.  The trailer will replace one purchased in 2009.  Public Works Director Dane Rau said the trailers are used to haul waste form the collection station to the landfill.  He said they average 4 trips a day and the trailers are being loaded throughout the day.

Council also approved an $11,000 maintenance and inspection contract for the emergency generators utilized at various city facilities.

Council also took a moment to thank Assistant City Manager Ryan Rapelye for his service. Rapelye is leaving to become the City Manager in Castle Hills near San Antonio.  He has been an Assistant City Manager in Brenham the past 2 years.

Brenham City Manager James Fisher (L) thanks Assistant City Manager Ryan Rapelye for his service to the city.

City Manager James Fisher said during the administrative report to the council that the city has received 95 applications for the Police Chief’s position and that they hope to have the first round of finalists selected by the end of March.  Fisher also said that an offer has been extended to an Animal Services Manager for the Animal Adoption Center and expect to have that position filled by mid-March.

Fisher also reminded councilmembers that the dates for the March Council meetings have been shifted by a week.  Council will meet the 8th and 22nd in March.
