BRENHAM CITY COUNCIL CALLS MAY 6TH ELECTION

  

The Brenham City Council officially called an election to take place for four council seats during their meeting today (Thursday).

The May 6th election will take place to fill positions for Ward One and Three, as well as At-Large Positions Five and Six. The incumbents in those positions are: Ward One, Keith Herring; Ward Three, Andrew Ebel; At-Large Position Five, Mary Barnes-Tilley; and At-Large Position Six, Gloria Nix.

As of this afternoon two of the incumbents have filed for reelection- Keith Herring and Andrew Ebel. All candidates can file for positions through February 17th.

In other business, the council held a work session to review the 2015-2016 fourth quarter financial report. Chief Financial Officer Carolyn Miller says the city experienced a favorable performance relative to the budget in four out of the five major utility funds:

The council also approved a one-year contract extension with Gene’s Services for mowing and cleanup services for various city departments.

In addition, the council approved a resolution regarding civil rights policies and procedures required for the city to receive a Texas Community Development block grant. The $275,000 grant will help fund the rehabilitation project for the city’s water tower on Church Street. The resolution is a standard requirement for governmental agencies who receive federal grant funds.
