BRENHAM CITY COUNCIL EXPLORES IMPROVEMENTS OF CHAPPELL HILL STREET

Street Improvements for Chappell Hill Street were discussed in the regular meeting of the Brenham City Council today.

The Council explored the possibility of continuing the improvements of Chappell Hill Street between Lawndale Avenue and Stone St.

The existing right-of-way is adequate to construct a 39-foot wide collector street section. The existing street does not have curb and gutter, so any new reconstruction work would require installation of approximately 1,400 feet of new curb and gutter and new intersection valleys and driveway approaches.

City Manager Terry Roberts recommended that the City personnel complete the remainder of the construction, which will cost $30,000, and the approximate cost of the concrete work is $30,000, with one possible funding source being the 2012 Certificates of Obligations, which have a balance of $600,000. Roberts also said that widening this portion will improve traffic flow south of Stone Street, once the remainder of Chappell Hill Street south of Lawndale is complete.

Also discussed were placing stop signs at the intersection of S. Day St at its intersection with Charles Lewis Street, and at the intersection of College Avenue where it intersects with S. Day St. Both resolutions were approved after hearing from one of the residents of that area.

Also approved was a noise variance for Home Sweet Farm Market, located at 307 S. Park Street. Brad Stufflebeam has requested to have live music on the 1st and 3rd weekend of each month, from Saturday 6-9pm and on Sunday 11am-4pm. The only business to be affected was Ant Street Inn, and Stuffelbeam has come into an agreement with Ant Street that if they are hosting a wedding, then he will not have live music for that day. The council agreed that the agreement between Stuffelbeam and Ant Street Inn will be in effect for 6 months, renewable up to a year, and as long as there are no complaints from residents or police.

Other items approved were the 2015 Holiday Schedule and the purchase of Group Term Life and Accidental Death and Dismemberment Insurance from Sun Life of Canada.
