BRENHAM CITY COUNCIL HAS FULL AGENDA FOR THURSDAY MEETING

The Brenham City Council has a full agenda for their meeting Thursday.  It’s been over a month since city council last met on February 15th.   The March meetings were moved one week later to avoid meeting on the 1st, then the March 8th meeting was canceled due to the heart attack of councilmember Charlie Pyle.

During an Executive Session scheduled after the public meeting, council will consider offering financial or other incentives to a Business Prospect looking to locate in or near the city.  They will also discuss the lease between the city and the Brenham Heritage Museum.  The museum facility on Market Street has been closed since it received flood damage in May of 2016.  Councilmembers will also discuss the termination of the construction contract with GCP Contractors.  That company failed to complete the new bathroom facility at Fireman’s Park.

During the regular session, council is scheduled to discuss:

Storm Sewer and Sidewalk Improvements along Church and Park Streets
A proposed rate increase for commercial sanitation services
Bids for Mowing and Cleanup services for various city departments
A financing proposal for the replacement Virtual Server Environment Equipment
A $20,000 donation to the Pet Adoption Center
And a noise variance for a church gathering on March 23rd at Fireman’s Park.

Also on the agenda, council will hear a presentation of the Main Street Brenham Work Plan for 2018.  They will also receive the First Quarter Report from the Washington County Convention and Visitors Bureau.

Brenham City Council meets Thursday at 1:00 PM on the second floor of City Hall.

  1. I wonder how the Burleson bridge over Higgins Branch is coming. The stream is dammed to allow their work; necessary but we are upon the spring big rain season and imagine the flooding that the dammed water would cause. Hope they make haste.

    1. That is not a ‘real’ dam, it is only a loose pile of dirt. I think the city is well aware of such a hazard, and I believe it is likely that it would erode too fast during severe rain for flooding to occur. As well, with the heavy equipment already present, it is a simple and quick matter to open the dam up to allow full-flow for the duration of the storm.
