The Texas Enterprise Zone Program is an economic development tool for local communities to partner with the State of Texas to promote job creation.

Participation in the Texas Enterprise Zone Program is possible because of Valmont Industries’ expansion of their Coatings Division at the Brenham facility. Valmont Industries is converting a building that used to house their utilities operations into a galvanizing facility. The approved project will now be eligible to apply for state sales and use tax refunds on qualified expenditures. The program will not affect local sales taxes.

In other business, the city council approved the purchase of six vehicles for the Brenham Police Department. The total for the three marked and three administrative vehicles is $217,328. All six vehicles were budgeted and will be purchased off the state contract.

  1. I have a letter from the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality which states Valmont withdrew their application for the galvanizing plant on August 31, of this year. The citizens were notified of Valmonts application to foul our air with dangerous chemicals thru the diligent reporting of KWHI early this summer. The article gave citizens a link to contact the commission to voice objections. Valmont was notified of the numerous objections and withdrew their application. The notice on this news station for the city council meeting for today deliberately omitted the information about Valmont continuing with their plan to poison our air to avoid any opposition at the meeting. What kind underhanded, flim flam are the citizens being subjected to city council? AND we are NOT economically stressed, we have county and city officials that cannot control rampant spending, and they are risking the health of our children and grandchildren to keep their bloated salaries and benefits the rest of us do not have, All we have are sky high property taxes! This is grounds for class action.
