The Council will hold a first reading of the 2016-2017 adopted budget. The property tax increase is reflected in the budget, as it will raise more total property taxes than last year's budget by an estimated $469,887.

The City Council will adopt the tax rate of 50.7 cents per hundred dollar valuation, which is 3.4 cents higher than the current tax rate for the City of Brenham. That amounts to a 7.64 percent increase in taxes paid by individuals and businesses who own property within the city limits.

The special meeting will take place at 8 a.m. in the second floor council chambers of City Hall in Brenham.

  1. Maybe we could send the council and city manager on an all paid 12 month vacation to some special island. We would save a ton of money as taxpayers.

  2. It seems that is all the city council knows how to do , Raise Taxes on people. Why are they not working on recruiting new businesses, Brenham city council cannot just keep raising taxes as an answer to everything. Wages have not gone up, Lots of senor citizens who live on Fixed incomes and now the city wants to put the squeeze on us even more, Time to vote out this group.

    1. The city DOESN’T WANT new business! It takes Christ’s blood, one of God’s eyelashes and a toenail from each disciple to get a permit from them! There is NOT ONE person you can go to and say “I want to open XYZ business. Here’s my plan. Tell me what I need to do.” They give you the run around, don’t return phone calls or email and are just plain ‘ole DIFFICULT to deal with!
