BRENHAM CITY COUNCIL TO DISCUSS ZONING CHANGES

Brenham City Council will consider an amendment and act upon a resolution during their meeting this afternoon (Thursday) to change a section of land from a recreational/open space district to a multifamily district on a tract of land located on the north side of Old Mill Creek Road. The Council will also consider an amendment to change the zoning district from a single family residential use to a mixed residential use for land located on the north side of Old Mill Creek Road.

A public hearing will be held to consider granting a specific use permit to allow a multifamily development on a site of 2 or more acres located on the north side of Old Mill Creek Road. The public hearing is also being held to consider changing a district from recreational/open space to commercial/retail at the northwest corner of the intersection of Old Mill Creek Road and S. Saeger Street as well as changing the zoning district from single family residential use to a local business/residential mixed use at the same spot.

The Council will go into regular session to possibly act upon the previous considerations. It will take a super majority to pass either of the considerations – 6 of the 7 council members must vote in agreement. They are also expected to act upon a resolution to change a plot of land being bound by Rucker Street, North Park Street, West Blue Bell Road, and Ewing Street from single family residential use to commercial/retail use as well as changing the zoning district from single family residential to local business/residential mixed use for land at the southeast intersection of Ewing and Rucker Streets.

A contract for participation in the City’s rotation log for non-consent tows is expected to be approved as well as a noise variance request from Shawna Wills for a graduation dinner on May 7th from 3:00pm to 10:00pm.

The Brenham City Council will meet at 1:00pm this afternoon (Thursday) in the second floor council chambers at City Hall located on west Vulcan Street.

  1. I guess “zoning” is just a feel good word to make people believe they are safe from encroachment, why have it in the first place, when all you need is a big enough down payment to change it. Government always has your back, ha ha

  2. City Council. Please listen to the people. The zoning change on Old Mill Creek Road should not be supported by the Planning Manager. It is a horrible planning move and it is appalling that the planning department would even suggest or support the move after the planning department failed to widen Old Mill Creek Road when they could have, before selling off the right-of-way. Please do not compound the problem !!!! Refer to additional comments on previous same article on the KWHI website.
