BRENHAM CITY COUNCIL TO CONSIDER HOHLT PARK REPAIR BID

The Brenham City Council will meet Thursday and is expected to approve a bid to repair the walking trail at Hohlt Park.

The City Council will consider the bid of $144,200 to repair the heavily damaged trail. The bid was submitted by Collier Construction and was the lowest of the four submitted for the project. According to Brenham Public Works Director Dane Rau, 75-percent of the cost should be covered by FEMA disaster funds.

The Council will also hold a public hearing is on the proposed tax rate of 50.7 cents per hundred dollar valuation, which is 3.4 cents higher than the current tax rate for the City of Brenham. It amounts to a 7.64 percent increase in taxes paid by individuals and businesses who own property within the city limits.  The tax rate increase is expected to generate an additional $277,230 to help fund a proposed $60.4 million budget for the City of Brenham.

The City Council will then present the 2015 municipal court statistics, amend the 2015-2016 adopted budget, and discuss the intent to reimburse certain costs related to the furnishing and equipping of the renovated city library.

The Council will also discuss amending the code of ordinance concerning the regulation of billboards; discuss an agreement between the City of Brenham and Brenham State Supported Living Center for pool use at the Blue Bell Aquatic Center; and discuss the request for a noise variance from the Texas Arts and Music Festival Organization for a festival held on October, 15th 2016.

The City Council will hold a seconding reading of the amendment to the Cable Television Franchise to amend Suddenlink Communications’ franchise agreement. During their last meeting, the council voted to eliminate the requirement for Suddenlink to maintain a local office in Brenham.  They will also hold a second reading on its Specific Use Permit grant to allow a business to display and store retail merchandise outside.  Krissie Zorn requested the permit for a gardening store she has planned to locate at 2600 North Park Street, at the entrance to Scenic Estates.  She plans have plants and mulch for sale outside the retail store.

The Brenham City Council will meet Thursday, August 18th at 1:00 p.m. on the second floor of City Hall in the Council Chambers.
