BRENHAM COUNCIL CLOSE TO NAMING NEW CITY MANAGER

The Brenham City Council is close to naming a new City Manager.  The council is expected to go into executive session at their meeting Thursday to discuss for the final time their selection for the position.  They may also consider a limited extension to the current city manager’s contract to facilitate the transition.  The current city manager, Terry Roberts, is scheduled to retire at the end of January.  The three finalists for the position, James Fisher of Forney Texas, Chris Heard of Lebanon Missouri, and Carolyn Miller of Brenham, were interviewed by council members one last time (today) Monday.  The vote on their selection is scheduled for open session Thursday.

Also on the agenda for Thursday’s meeting, council will consider changing the zoning of 8 acres adjacent to Tiaden Lane.  The requested zoning change to Industrial Use would allow Del Sol Foods to expand from their current location.  Council will also consider a Tax Phase-In for Mosier Community Media.  The company has recently purchased the old Bode and Tonn building at the corner Main and North Park Street and is remodeling it for their offices.

Council members are also expected to authorize the issuance of Certificates of Obligation relating to the 2017 - 2018 budget.  The certificates will be utilized for improvements to the water and wastewater utility systems, the Aquatic Center and construction of street and drainage improvements.  Council will also consider adopting the Guidelines for a Downtown Historic District Incentive Grant Program.  They are also expected to act on the recommendations for appointments to various City Advisory Boards.

Council members will also have a work session to hear a report from the Hotel Occupancy Tax Board on Reviving Tourism in Brenham and Washington County.

Brenham City Council meets Thursday at 1:00 PM on the second floor of City Hall.

  1. Always wonder if city administrators ever read these comments…..their actions on comments are evidence that they DON’T always “GIVE A FLIP”. Apparently city residents are the only ones who are aware of just how far “down the tubes” this city is going.

  2. After reading the comments here and on other news stories involving our Current City/county elected officials , I have to say that it appears that Confidence in our elected officials is at a all time low. It appears that it is time for a change, maybe vote in some “New Blood” I hope that at least some of the current elected officials see all the post and maybe even try to do a little better. after all they really do work for us,The voters of Brenham and Washington Co. I fear that some ( not all) of our current officials are in it for the wrong reason, and do not really have the peoples best interest in mind. or simple are too set in their ways to accept that all towns ( Large and Small) are needing change to remain relevant ” When it doubt, Vote em out”

  3. From the outside looking in I just have to wonder. Why has this process been so stalled? Why has this been so difficult for city council? I could have only wished that council would have spent this much time when contemplating Robert’s several last performance raises. I could have only wished that council would have taken this much time when contemplating a a city management structure with three assistant city managers with a city manager. Hopefully, after spending all this money in this city manager selection process, the new city manager will realign the management structure and better appropriate tax dollars. A resourceful city manager from a smaller town is what we need to stop the present run-away spending. And with a little bit of luck, maybe this will create a rippling effect, and maybe the city fat will fall off in other departments when their positions are determined nonessential or unworthy for what they are getting compensated. You can’t make everyone happy in city hall, but, why not try to please the taxpayers for once?

  4. I wonder, do the other out of area candidates know the fix is in for Miller? The public deserves to know how each council person voted, but that will never happen because they don’t want to be held accountable for their actions. But then, they were not given decent choices, two losers or the one who keeps their bureaucracy growing, as planned. The backlash of voters against the current state of all governments will roll over this city too. It will be sweet.

    1. Keep dreaming. You really think somehow ‘this’ is enough to overcome 50 years of voter apathy? Doesn’t seem likely; I bet we don’t see a single incumbent voted out in the whole county in the next two elections.
