BRENHAM FIRE DEPARTMENT REPORT

The Brenham Fire Department responded to a residential structure Thursday around 4:44pm to fire located at 606 Blue Jay St.

BFD responders determined the fire was extinguished by the one of the residents of the home with water from a garden hose. The kitchen fire started at the stove and extended to the cabinets and ceiling of the kitchen with smoke damage throughout the structure.

BFD personnel checked the kitchen area for fire extension- the fire was confined to the kitchen. Smoke fans were used to remove smoke from the residence.

All residents safely exited the structure.

The cause of the fire is under investigation by BFD's Fire Marshal's Division.

The Fire Department responded to an automatic fire alarm at Brenham Middle School, 1600 Blue Bell Road this (Friday) morning around 2:40am.

The alarm panel indicated there was a problem in the art kiln room. BFD responders checked the room and found excessive heat from the operating kiln used to make ceramic items. The vent fan above the kiln which removes the heat was not working.

The power to the kiln was shut off and a fan was set up to remove heat from the room. The alarm reset after the room cooled down.

There was no property damage from the heat and school maintenance was notified of the problem.
