BRENHAM HEB STORE TO OFFER CURBSIDE PICKUP

Brenham’s HEB store will soon be adding curbside pickup to their list of services.  Customers will be able to select and pay for items online and have them waiting for them when they get to the store.  Local HEB manager Larry Hargis explains:

Hargis says they hope to have the curbside pickup available by mid-April.  HEB plans to add about 20 employees to handle the process.  Hargis explains where the curbside pickup area will be located:

A $5 service fee will be added to each order for the service.

Another service that Brenham’s HEB store has added in recent years is officers providing traffic control during holidays on South Day Street.  Hargis explains how this came about:

The traffic control times are posted so that any off duty officer in the county can apply for the extra hours.  HEB pays for all of the costs for the officers.  Hargis say they plan on continuing to provide traffic control officers during holidays and special events, with the next time being Super Bowl Sunday.  He said that that officers will also be directing traffic on Easter, Memorial Day, the 4th of July, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Years.

  1. More curb side service huh? I guess next they’ll have someone ride home with you to pack the groceries in the house and put them up for you? Heck, why not just cook the food and feed us why you’re at it HEB? This society of ours is getting more and more lazy. Obviously, there is a market for laziness and the stores are smart enough to tap into it… Why not? I mean, we have drive through restaurants. Convenience begets laziness and on and on. I personally would like to continue using my limbs (legs, arms, feet, hands, etc.) For as long as I am able. That’s my personal feeling about it. However, I respect those who are excited about the new feature. I just feel that all of these conveniences is gonna hurt us physically in a long run. Social skills will be affected because the new generation will no longer feel the need to get put of their vehicles (which will probably be driving itself before long) to go inside of the doggone store. This sounds good, but I’m almost sure that ours butts wil get fatter! And if someone finds this post or any part of this post offensive, I apologize in advance. It wasn’t my intention to do so. This is JUST my humble opinion. And I respect everyone else’s opinion.

  2. I have used curbside shopping; produce is not what I would have hand selected, fresh meat selections did not always meet my choices, just beware of the perishable foods that they are the freshest.

  3. I can’t wait till Brookshire Brothers gets their curbside! So then I can just drive up and pick up my 8 pc bag of chicken!

  4. would digital coupons apply? Also thought there was also a 3% charge. No doubt at times this would be fantastic! With so many elderly, a very positive move. Have to agree about reduction in name brands.

  5. I love HEB, but one small nit to pick…

Over the last year or so, they have started to reduce the number of name brands they carry, and replace them with HEB house brands. In some cases, this is no issue. But there are some products where I WANT to buy (and pay) for the name brand quality. But I am forced to get a house brand. I’ve found myself stopping at Brookshire Bros (or WM) lately just to find a certain branded product, when I *never* used to do that before.

    1. I know what you mean Loyal. Why would you pick a HEB product for 5 cents less and get 8 cents less quality and quantity?!?!

  6. I am thrilled to see the curbside Service being added ! $5.00 ! I’ll pay that easily to not fight for a parking spot, & shopping that big store ! For someone that has issues walking I welcome the addition ! & didn’t realize the police officers directing traffic were there because H-E-B asked them to be there & they were paying for them 100% !!!
    KUDOS H-E-B

  7. Thank you HEB! This will definitely be a huge benefit to many people, myself included. Due to a permanent disability my shopping trip completely wears me out the rest of the day and the next. Kudos for having the foresight to see this need and meet it even though we are a small community! Service like this is what keeps me a loyal customer! Even through all the horrible remodeling and construction, I was there weekly! You may find a lower price on some things in another store but you won’t find better employees or service! Thank you again!

  8. So glad to see the curbside service coming to our HEB. What a great thing for the elderly or for those is a hurry! As long as you aren’t ordering 3 or 4 times a week, the $5 fee should be nothing. Hopefully some of the High School aged kids will get the jobs!

  9. Great news on this service, especially for disabled or elderly shoppers. We need a Kroger store here desperately. They have competitive prices, better store brands and products unavailable in HEB or Walmart. Unfortunately, Kroger marketing only looks at average blue collar wage as the determining factor for store placement and we know Brenham’s is notoriously low and controlled. Strangely enough, the old guard powers that control wages wouldn’t be caught dead schlepping in our local stores. Personally, I like Amazon Prime prices which are competitive, especially if you plan on using the pick up service and pay the fee at HEB.

  10. Oh wow! Curbside pickup at our little HEB. Brenham is hitting the big time. We are one step closer to getting that Hobby Lobby and Academy!

  11. This is such a needed service and $5 is a small price to pay! Those with physical limitations as well as the elderly and infirm will greatly benefit!!! Having recently had the flu and needing groceries, I would’ve GLADLY used this service!
    Thank you HEB !!!!

  12. When I inquired back in October, I was told they didn’t yet have a system for handling digital coupons and the yellow store coupons. I hope they’ve solved this.

I don’t like the handling charge, since Walmart doesn’t charge extra for their curbside service. But it would eliminate driving to Bryan, since the local Walmart has yet to offer the service.

Walmart also offers fewer actual sales, so I would expect savings at HEB prices. I’ve used Walmart pickup for over a year. While the service is great, savings are not as good.

    1. Quit complaining! This has nothing to do with Walmart! My gosh are you that old and bored to not be happy a change is coming to Brenham because that’s the future and I’m all for helping the less fortunate that maybe can’t get out of your vehicle so easily or have trouble walking a long distance.
I’m also wondering why you shop at HEB with your petty complaints. We have other grocery stores but I bet you got complaints about those also… How about you open your own store and see how hard running a successful business really can be then you can have all the sales you want!
The kids/adults need local jobs in Brenham to help boost the economy and become an example for the younger generation.
Thank you HEB for all you do in Brenham.

  13. So glad this service is now going to be available! Some say the $5 fee is outrageous. If you think of all the impulse buying that you do while in the store, you will probably be saving money. Plus 20 added jobs to the local job force. Win win!!

    1. You are so right. You always pick up things you don’t need! Especially if you have children along. The convenience of not having to find a parking space, search for products, stand in line and load the car is certainly worth $5 to me!

    1. If you don’t like a smaller store in a smaller town. Then go to a bigger store in a bigger town. People who don’t appreciate s small town for what we are, don’t need to change us, just need to be happy or move on.

      1. This store is already too big, especially for elderly persons. I’m pretty much wiped out by the time I finish shopping..

      2. BOB, it appears you missed HEB’s point; the store is too small for how big a town Brenham already is. Would you like to head the ‘Committee To Pick The Names Of Those Who Must Leave’? Or just let the company build a bigger store?
