BRENHAM ISD APPROVES PURCHASES OF NEW TEXTBOOKS

The Brenham ISD Board of Trustees met Monday evening, and, after welcoming Dr. Walter Jackson, the new superintendent, to his first meeting, heard a request for approval to purchase print and digital textbook for Social Studies grades K-12, Math grades 9-12 and Fine Arts grades K-12.

Instructional Materials Allotment Coordinator Kim Strauss reported that the school district is in compliance with the stipulations for the past year.

The Brenham ISD Instructional Materials Oversight Committee requested to spend a total of $131,095.70 on the Social Studies materials K-12, $48, 027.98 for Math materials for grades 9-12, and $46.625.05 for Fine Arts textbooks for K-12. All these materials are in print and digital forms.

The District received and the Board approved a $3,462.56 donation from Brenham game Changers, to be used to cover expenses for a Leadership Summit in San Antonio.

The Board also approved donations from Baylor Scott and White Hospital in Brenham in the amount of $3,000, to be used for the Community Fitness Walk for student participation medals.

Jeff Witte, Agriculture Science Teacher, presented a PowerPoint presentation to the Board, giving preliminary information on the possibility  of forming a Brenham High School bass fishing team, which would be known at the Brenham High School Fishing Club.

The Club would be open to all students in grades 9-12 enrolled at Brenham High School. Students in the club must maintain a 2.0 GPA, be subject to the No Pass No Play, as well as be subject to other rules of the club. The formation of the club would not require funding from Brenham ISD, instead would funded through fundraising and annual dues.

The Board saw a presentation by the BHS Barbershop Quartet “Pitch Perfect,” which performed for the board and the public at the meeting.
