BRENHAM ISD BOARD SETS PUBLIC HEARING DATE TO DISCUSS DISTRICT RATINGS

  

The Brenham ISD Board of Trustees met on Monday night to discuss as part of the Consent Agenda, the Board setting a time and date for a public meeting on Brenham ISD’s 2013-2014 School FIRST (Financial Intergrity Ratings System of Texas), which will be on Monday, December 14, 2015 at 6:00pm in the Krause Elementary School Library. The District received a “Passing” rating.

The Board also heard a presentation of the campus improvement plans, goals and objectives for Alton Elementary School. The item had been on the agenda as a Consent Item, but was pulled for further discussion by Board President Natalie Lange.

Goal One is to Inspire students success through innovating and creative instructional methods.

Goal Two is to Develop, motivate, and support all employees to create a challenging and empowering education environment

Goal Three is to Promote family and community involvement

Goal Four is The campus administration and staff will promote and foster a safe, civil and secure environment.

Also on the agenda was a request for approval to adopt a resolution distributing Brenham ISD’s 2463 votes for candidate membership on the Board of Directors for the Washington County Tax Appraisal District. The list is as follows:

The five directors will serve two year terms beginning on January 1st of even numbered years.

The Board also heard from Christie Olivarez, Director of Human Resources on the Brenham ISD Highly Qualified Teacher status. Olivarez reported that the Highly Qualified Teacher must hold at least a bachelor’s degree, be fully certified to teach in Texas, and demonstrate competency in their core academic subject area.

It was reported that two BJHS teachers did not fill the requirements due to them being new to the district, and have been assigned to special education roles in Life Skills classrooms. These teachers have met the appropriate state special education certification required for the grade level they are teaching. They must, however also meet the same standard for the subject matter competency to meet “highly qualified requirements. Both teachers have scheduled and will attempt the TExES Core Subjects EC-6 exam this semester.

All other Brenham ISD campuses were reported as 100 percent highly qualified.

The Board also accepted a monetary donation to the District from the Brenham Booster Club. The check presented to the Board by Michael Groves was in the amount of $27,500, and will be split among the different sports teams in the area, at the request of the Booster Club.

The Board also saw a patriotic singing presentation from the Brenham Elementary School students.
