  1. Teachers husband is right on the money. It would be wise for our new superintendent to withdraw this request with the school board in agreement. The board needs voter support. The administrative end of the education business gets bigger each year at all schools in this county, and it has not improved the education in the classroom. Bigger salaries than our teachers and they work far fewer hours. Wake up board, innovative thinking, dedication to the task, and the knowledge that the student is why you have a job. Give them what we pay for , the best classroom experience each and every day of the school year.

  2. I whole hardheartedly agree with Teacher’s Husband, lets start holding the parents accountable for their children and start backing the teachers when need be. Let’s start teaching our students instead of teaching the test and get those administrators out and in the classrooms to really see what goes on. If this Superintendent really does have an open door policy, then he should be willing to get out and talk to the teachers and the students to see what is needed.
Perhaps a round table discussion group with the Superintendent and some of the teachers could do more than a school improvement officer. My place of work has adopted this and it seems to be working really well and our “BOSS” hears from all aspects of the jobs not just from the supervisors.

  3. I would have hoped our new superintendent would be our School Improvement Officer. To create another expensive administrative level position who simply adds to the work of our already over burdened teachers is ridiculous. This school district has hired so many administrators and specialists over the last few years that many of them have no real purpose, and at the end of the day can show no real measurable objectives they can point to as accomplishments. It is time to start putting resources back into the classroom instead of the offices. I watch the silly non-productive things my wife is being forced to do (i.e. writing “I Can” statements, attending workshops that teach no new material, etc.) that I am amazed they put it with it. Not only does our district pay below many other area school, but it is forcing experienced knowledgeable teachers to waste their time on silly activities instead of listening to the experience and knowledge of the educators and supporting them in teaching the kids.

If you want to see some improvement, invest in some discipline and order so the teachers can focus on teaching. Find alternative environments for kids who cannot and will not succeed in the classroom so that they and other students have a chance to learn. Start holding parents accountable for their failures as parents, instead of allowing them to blame the teachers. The lack of teaching and parenting in the home due to our relaxed or non-existent moral standards are bringing students into the classroom that do not have the basic life skills needed to succeed and a teacher is supposed to make these sad, poor, starveed, and neglected students into a scholar. Let get real people, the problem is not in the classroom and it cannot be answered with more high paid administrators, look in the homes and you will find much of the problems with our schools.

    1. Well said teachers husband. I know of a teacher that has a masters degree and went for an interview with our district. The very first question ask her was did she have a Bus License. Maybe if we drop some of the office staff we can have qualified bus drivers and not teachers that are forced to get a CDL in fear of losing there job. I bet when these teachers went to school to TEACH they didn’t have to take a bus class. They are forced to drive if they coach a sport which they are forced to coach in fear of losing there job. This is just wrong and consider bulling your employee. Don’t we teach our kids not to bully. Well BISD my kid sees you bulling her parent. Great lesson.

    2. Well said Teacher’s Husband….a little bit of home taught, personal responsibility would go a long way in todays educational environment!
