BRENHAM ISD SEEKING PARENT INPUT ON SCHOOL CALENDAR

Brenham ISD is seeking parent feedback regarding the development of the instructional calendar for the 2017-2018 school year.

The instructional calendar is a critical component of the annual planning and sets the tone for teaching and learning in the school district.

BISD is asking parents to respond by tomorrow (Thursday) to help develop an instructional calendar to best meet the needs of the district’s students.

  1. I am not sure why they bother asking, both parents and teachers have offered input in the past which has been completely and totally ignored. What makes this time any different?

    1. I applaud the school board for soliciting our opinion on this, though as you’ve pointed out it may be just for optics as it seems they’ve already decided how they want to proceed. This brief survey is written in such a way as to give us very little choice and ellicit the answers the board wants, not the answers the parents want to give. For example, when asked if you prefer if school ends in May or June, we’re not given enough information to make an informed decision. I’d like to know the following: if school ends in May, when will it begin, and if it ends in June, will it be June 1st or June 31st? These factors affect my decision. I know the district wants to make the school year longer but there needs to be more transparency here. This survey seems like a veiled attempt to get one over on us and then be able to sit back and say “we asked your opinion and this is what you wanted”.
