BRENHAM ISD STUDENTS TO PARTICPATE IN LOCAL HISTORY DAY

Brenham ISD will host Local History Day on May 14 for students in the fourth grade, and on May 21 for the district’s seventh graders.

Over 800 students are expected to attend the program, this being the second year it is being held.

The purpose of Local History Day is to teach students the importance of our community to Texas History, and also to give parents ideas on how to teach kids to enjoy their heritage.

The students will be bussed to various locations around town, where costumed actors will impersonate Washington County’s forefathers.

A picnic lunch will be provided, and games from the 19th century will be presented, and songs popular during the Civil War era will be demonstrated to the students.

The hope is that the children will take what they have learned back to their parents.

Places such as the Heritage Museum, Heritage Society of Washington County, The Brenham Fire Department, Washington-on-the-Brazos State Park, and Brenham ISD will participate, and people Tiffany Morisak and Rick Perkins will help with the collaboration. In total there are around 150 sponsors and volunteers who help put the event together.

They is still a need for another male actor, additional facilitators, and additional sponsors.

Major donors include Main Street Brenham, Brazos Valley Schools Credit Union, Rotary Club of Washington County, Brenham National Bank, Mrs. Lenoir Seelhorst, Del Sol Food Co, Dr. Henry and Teddy Boehm, Roslyn and Charles Bradford, and the Washington County Geneological Society.
