BRENHAM ISD TO BE DESIGNATED AS A CHAPTER 41 SCHOOL DISTRICT

The Brenham ISD Board of Trustees will meet on Monday, August 3 at noon to discuss Brenham ISD’s designation as a Chapter 41 school district by the Texas Education Agency.

Chapter 41 of the Texas Education Code requires school districts that are property wealthy to share their wealth with school districts that are property poor. This statute is sometimes referred to as the "share the wealth" or "Robin Hood" plan. The school finance system "recaptures" funds from the property-wealthy districts to distribute to the property-poor districts.

The State of Texas has established the Equalized Wealth Level at $319, 500. Brenham ISD is at a higher level, which is why the State has designated Brenham ISD a “wealthy” district.

Kim Horne, Director of Business and Finance  says that the District will not have to pay the state any money, and this is just a required formality.

The Board will also discuss the 2015-2016 proposed budget, as well as set the 2015 proposed tax rate and set date and time for public meetings to hear public comments on the 2015-2016 proposed school district budget and 2015 proposed tax rate.

The Board will meet at the Brenham ISD Central office at 711 E Mansfield St.
