Eric, I think you hit the nail on the head.Enough is enough – Take some responsibility not free stuff!
Why can’t you all be thankful and give the district an applaud for doing a very kind and generous thing, INSTEAD of looking at the bad here and pointing the finger at people that you have no idea what their personal life is about!!
I WORKED IN THE PUBLIC SCHOOL YEARS AGO AND T IS UNBELIEVABLE HOW MANY PARENTS DO NOT ACCEPT RESPONSIBILITY OF THEIR CHILDREN. I COULD NEVER SEE LETTING A CHILD GO HUNGRY BUT WE ARE IN FACT ENABLING AND IN A WAY SUPPORTING DEADBEAT PARENTS THROUGH THE GOVERNMENT ASSISTANCE THEY RECEIVE. I HOPE THAT THESE CHILDREN DO GET HELP AND SUPPORT THROUGH OTHER AVENUES SO THEY ARE NOTCLONES OF THEIR PARENTS.
For this program to exist, it means that a growing number of children in and around Brenham do not have a mother or father that will take care of them. What’s the difference in this and the foster care program?
We’re playing whack a mole with a big problem in and around Brenham. This problem will get much worse until the dead beat parent problem is addressed. Before you start thinking it’s a jobs problem or a skill problem or just a poor person’s problem, remember that the parent is already enabled to get assistance with food.
The children cannot be punished for their parent’s mistakes but the children are likely to become their parents regardless of any actions by the government that currently only give reason to stay on assistance. To fix this problem we have to shape and hope to change dead beat parents to responsible and loving parents.
Show me someone that demands parental accountability and I’ll show you someone that truly loves their neighbors. Band aids like this summer feeding program seem to win you press coverage and friends but just exacerbate the problem for our own children to inherit.
Yes we all have an answer to solve all of life’s problems but when it comes down to it talk is cheap. If we can afford another $50 billion to build more bombs when we have enough now to destroy the world thousands of times over then I don’t think we as the wealthiest country in the world are gonna go broke feeding needy kids during the summer! If it’s the parents fault well let’s not hold the child accountable. Perhaps Eric you were born with a silver spoon in your mouth and never had to feel the pangs of an empty stomach but if they ever do drop an EMP and the electricity goes out you will feel hunger and thirst for yourself firsthand . In the meantime let those kids eat,at least their not eating $100. Ruth Chris steakhouse steaks and caviar like some are! God bless!
You must b a non parent……and yes i wrote what i meant….bc only a person with no idea of the costs of being a parent would have concurred up such hateful words……i have 3 chidren that i do take care of and when a program like this comes along to help me feed them im on it. So where do you see dead beat on me..no where….so please if u dont know……please dont comment. ..especially negative comments…. I think yall need jesus not free lunch!
Mary,
I am a parent as well. Yes, children are expensive. No, its not the responsibility of the state or the people of the this town to provide for them or be a better example than I am. If I were to take government aid, I’d take the $600++ in SNAP food assistance per month and send them to school with a very healthy lunch having already eaten breakfast. But I’m not on this program and my budget is about $550 per month. If you qualify for free or reduced meals, what are you getting in additional assistance such as SNAP or WIC that you also qualify for? Is the food provided from those programs not enough? is it not good enough? or is it inconvenient for you to make lunch for your children?
Kids look to Mom and Dad for examples. Good or bad, it’s the exception that a child doesn’t become like his/her parents. My post is about reducing the growing amount of child neglect and abuse happening in this town. The summer feeding program is only a band aid and an enabler to that problem and I think it can be done much better so that we actually gain ground in a war we’ve been losing ground on for the last 50 years.
Your taxes are going up from the devaluation of the U.S. Dollar not from poor kids eating breakfast and lunch Sad Sack
Your marching down the wrong street there. Simple Fact: The more government programs. The more the taxes are. The less of your hard earned money you get to keep.
Never want anyone to go hungry but, why do their parents not feed them? With all the subsistence programs don’t tell me a parent can’t find ways to feed their children. One more reason our property taxes go crazy.
