BRENHAM MAIFEST TO HOST A WEEK OF CELEBRATING GERMAN HERITAGE

The 125th Maifest kicks off this week on Wednesday with the Maifest Kick-off Picnic at the Fireman’s Park Pavilion, from 6:00pm to 8:30pm.

There will be a ribbon cutting, German food and drink, German entertainment by Allison Crowson, with a children’s Maipole dance, and a preview of entertainment for the weekend.

The antique carousel in the park will also be open.

On Saturday morning, the Junior and Senior parades will begin at 10:30am in downtown Brenham, with children dressed in costumes that match with the Court themes. The area volunteer fire departments will be supporting Maifest by driving their fire trucks through the parade route, as well as the Shriners, local officials, high school and college marching bands, and the 9th grade art contest float built to full size.

The seven 2015 Hall of Fame inductees will be the Grand Marshalls for the parade.

After the parade, the fun continues at Fireman’s Park. Admission is free, and will include 15 food booths, a biergarten, and a new wine tent with cheese trays available for purchase.

There will also be several children’s activities including water balls, laser tag, bull riding, a bungee trampoline, large bounce houses, a hippo slide, obstacle course, the Carousel, a petting zoo, and a trackless train.

Because of the Blue Bell recall, the Brenham Noon Lions Club will be unable to hold the Ice Cream Smorgasbord usually held during Maifest.

On Sunday morning at 8:30am, the Maifest will hold its first annual Royalty Run, and a polka church service at 10:30am, with German music, a bean bag tournament, and other activities that will conclude at 4pm.

There will have transportation from the high school to the festival that begins 30 minutes before the festival begins and runs thirty minutes after the festival ends each day.

General Admission tickets are still available for the coronations on Friday and Saturday nights, $15 for tickets. These tickets can be purchased at the Chamber of Commerce, and at the coronations practices during the week of Maifest.

We has chosen 3 recipients of our scholarships, and they will be announced at the high school scholarship presentation later this month.  Maifest has provided over $55,000 in scholarships over the past 27 years for students in our community to attend college.
