BRENHAM NATIVE TO PERFORM AT THE BARNHILL CENTER

  

An Austin singer-songwriter and Brenham native will perform Saturday night at the Simon Theatre.

Darden Smith the founder and creative director of Songwriting with Soldiers – is performing at The Barnhill Center, Saturday at 7:00 p.m.

Smith began writing songs the age of 10, and has been recording since 1986.  His 30-year career includes fourteen critically acclaimed albums and he is the founder and creative director of SongwritingWith:Soldiers.

SongwritingWith:Soldiers pairs award-winning songwriters with veterans and service members in retreat settings to craft their stories into songs.

Smith also served as Artist-In-Residence at Oklahoma State University’s Institute for Creativity and Innovation and the Riata School of Entrepreneurship from 2011-to-2013.

Smith contributes to Huffington Post’s Arts & Culture Blog and is currently working on a book, “The Trick: Thoughts on Art and Work.”
