BRENHAM P.D. TO TAKE PART IN TxDOT “STEP” PROGRAM

The Brenham Police Department is joining with other law enforcement agencies in hopes of reducing the number of drunk drivers out on the road this holiday season.
The local department is participating in a second STEP Wave program sponsored by the Texas Department of Transportation.
According to statistics, someone is injured in an alcohol-related crash every two minutes in the United States. The U.S. National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism reports that 40 percent of traffic-related deaths during Christmas and New Year's involve drunk drivers.

The focus on the holidays is a direct response to the increase of alcohol related accidents during those times.
here are four specified wave periods in the grant. The first one is from Dec. 19th through Jan. 2nd.
