BRENHAM P.D. WARNS OF SCAM

The Brenham Police Department is warning residents of a phone scam.

According to police, some Brenham residents are getting telephone calls telling them the caller is with Apple ICloud and the security of their account is in danger.

Police say the caller has a foreign accent, and will try to get the information from the person they are calling, which will include their full name, date of birth, banking information i.e.; credit /debit card numbers, account numbers, driver’s license numbers, access to their computer etc.

After obtaining this information the caller then, usually while on the telephone with the victim, will make several unauthorized purchases.  Sometimes the caller will ask the victim to go buy ITunes cards for $100.00 and give him the numbers on the card.

If information is given to the caller he can get credit cards in the victim’s name or drain the victim’s bank account.

Apple is not behind this and has been contacted.  Residents are encouraged to not talk to these callers or give them any information.

Anyone with questions, is urged to call the Brenham Police Department.

  1. I have received several of these calls. All were from California on my caller ID, so far 6 different phone numbers but all from Cali. I have not had an iTunes account since 2005 so I knew the calls were bogus. Hanging up on them did not stop the calls. Only when I texted them demanding the calls to stop did they actually stop calling. It’s sad they want to rip people off.

  2. We had 13 calls from them one day last week, sometimes the number came up as unknown-real annoying. We let them all go to the answering machine. Get a real job and quit trying to rip off honest people!

  3. I have been getting calls from people saying they are from Medicare? Also people saying they saw where I applied for disability and when I say I did not they hang up! lots of fraud!

  4. WOW!! People will try anything and everything these days except honest work. GO GET A JOB AND WORK FOR WHAT YOU NEED AND WANT!

  5. I started getting these calls 2 weeks ago !
4-5 a day every day for over a week ! They are persistent ! Gave them nothing

    1. Nationwide & persistent. I’ve had them on cell phones and our hard line phone. There are several variations and have been ongoing for months. Never give info out to someone who calls you.
