BRENHAM PLANNING AND ZONING TO RECOMEND DENIAL OF ZONING CHANGE REQUEST

The Brenham Planning and Zoning Commission will recommend that Brenham City Council deny a zoning change request the Commission considered during their meeting on Monday. cityhalllocation01

The zone change was requested by Sam Lawhon of All Seasons Landscape and the property owner of Redeemer Church. All Seasons Landscape wanted to purchase 5.3 acres on MLK parkway to use for multiple purposes including: storing machinery, storing raw materials and to use as parking for employees. Eventually, All Seasons would like to build a shop at the location.

In order to make this an actuality, the zoning would need to be changed from Mixed Residential to Commercial use. The Brenham Planning and Zoning Commission will recommend the Brenham City Council deny the request because they believe the current zoning is the best use of the property and they believe it could affect adjoining residential value in general.

The Planning and Zoning Commission also denied the Comprehensive Plan change for the same property. The Comprehensive Plan is a document the City uses to help guide planning and future zoning changes for future growth. To follow best practices, it is ideal to change the comprehensive plan when a rezoning request is made so the two maps do not conflict with one another.

In other business, the Commission approved the Preliminary Plat for the Sandy Pointe Subdivision, Section 3, which consists of 5 lots, and is a subdivision of 1.031 acres of land and a reserve of 9.001 acres.
