BRENHAM POLICE AND HOUSING AUTHORITY AGREEMENT RENEWED

The Brenham City Council renewed its longstanding agreement with the Brenham Housing Authority of the police protection plan provided by the police department.

Police Chief Rex Phelps told the Council that there is little change in the agreement that assigns a police officer to the Housing Authority property.

The Brenham Police Department provides a liaison office for the routine utilization of policing in and around the public housing areas.  Police Chief Phelps told the Council at  (Thursday’s) meeting that the proactive approach reduces crime and helps keep the patrol and investigative divisions balanced as it relates  to police response to the entire Brenham community.   In return the Brenham Housing Authority reimburses the city costs related to personnel.

Currently Officer Joseph Merkley is the liaison officer for the Housing  Authority.
