BRENHAM POLICE ARREST THREE OVER THE WEEKEND

  

The Brenham Police Department reports that they made 3 arrests over the weekend.

At 10:30 Friday night, during a traffic stop on Highway 290, Officer Jonathan Phipps detected the smell of marijuana coming from the vehicle and called for the K9 unit.  While the vehicle was being searched, the owner admitted to having marijuana in the center console.  Arrested was Jack Roth Blackwell, age 25 of Spring for possession of under 2 ounces of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.

At 8pm Saturday, Officer David Dudenhoeffer observed a vehicle traveling west on Main Street with its turn signal continuously on.  When he stopped the vehicle and asked the driver to exit, the driver locked the doors on the pickup and denied that there was anything illegal inside.  Because of this behavior, the K9 unit was called to the scene.  The police dog indicated the odor of drugs around the truck so a search was made.  The search discovered a usable amount of methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia inside the truck.  Arrested was Matthew Wayne Engeling, age 40 of Brenham.

The Brenham Fusion Unit also made an arrest after observing a suspect wanted in a burglary of a habitation driving near Alamo and Chappell Hill Streets.  Officer Kevin Mertz and Sargent Carl Weisepape attempted to pull the vehicle over, but it continued to drive on for about a mile.  Officer Mertz made contact with the driver and observed him attempting to hide a small plastic bag containing a tablet.  The tablet was field tested a showed positive to be amphetamine.  Arrested was Ernest James Dever Jr. age 25 of Brenham for Burglary of a habitation with intent to commit assault and possession of a controlled substance under 1 gram.
