“No Shave November” is coming and Brenham Police Chief Craig Goodman says the department is about to “get hairy in the name of charity”.icon Brenham Police

Starting October 1st and continuing through the end of November, members of the department will be allowed to grow facial hair as a fundraiser benefitting Adam’s Angels.

Adam’s Angels Ministry offers care and support to families with children fighting cancer. The organization also works to raise funds for cancer research. The idea for the fundraiser came from one of the sergeants, and after some consideration, Chief Goodman agreed.

Chief Goodman says officers will be allowed to grow a beard or goatee if they personally donate at least $25 per month to Adam’s Angels. Sgt. Justin Schiller suggested the idea as a way to allow the officers to participate in “No Shave November”.  Chief Goodman says the officers are allowed to have a sponsor for the event.

The Brenham Police Department has a policy that prohibits beards and goatees. Chief Goodman says this gives the officers an opportunity to have a relaxed grooming standard for the benefit of a great charity. However, certain standards must still be maintained while on duty to ensure they continue to present a professional appearance to the public.

The goal of the “No Shave November” event is to grow awareness of one of the many challenges cancer patients face – the loss of hair. Participants are encouraged to donate the money they would have spent on shaving to cancer research.

The Brenham Police Department is challenging all first responders in the area to participate in “No Shave November” and help raise funds in the fight against cancer.
