BRENHAM POLICE WARN AGAINST PHONE SCAM

The Brenham Police Department is cautioning city residents about releasing personal information over the phone – even if the caller says they work for the City of Brenham. City officials said they have been told that residents are receiving phone calls from someone saying they work for the City and need to verify account information. They are then asked for credit card numbers and other personal information. The call is part of a scam, officials said.

“We just want to remind everyone that no employees from the City of Brenham are going to call and ask for personal information or credit card information to be given over the phone. Typically if there is a problem with an account or any need to communicate with our residents, a letter will be sent from the City. The letter will have been authorized by the Administrative staff and easily verifiable. If you do get a phone call from someone representing themselves from the City of Brenham that seems unusual, by all means, please report it to us,” said Chief Dant Lange.
