BRENHAM SCHOOL BOARD MEETING MONDAY EVENING

  

Brenham School Superintendent Dr. Walter Jackson read a statement about the on campus display of the American flag before the school board meeting began Tuesday evening.  Jackson stated that both the American and Texas flags are proudly flown at all the Brenham campuses.  He also stated that students recite Pledges of Allegiance to the American and Texas flags in their classrooms each morning and that he is proud of the way Brenham ISD has continued to honor the flags and our military.  His complete statement: Brenham ISD Press Release

Assistant Superintendent Jamey Johnson presented the Campus Improvement Plans.  Each school principal identified one strength and one area the needed improvement on their campuses.  The District Improvement Plan was also presented.  Among the strengths were the number of Distinction Designations received last year and the way the community is willing to assist the schools and students.  Areas that needed improvement included finding instructional strategies for struggling students and insuring that each student makes a year’s growth in content areas.

Director of Information Technology Kim Strauss and Director of Career Technology Cody Stelter updated the board on the STEM Taskforce.  The 18 member taskforce will be visiting schools in Bryan and Killeen to observe their STEM programs.

 

The board also accepted two monetary donations.  The Brenham ISD Education Foundation presented a donation of $20,697 from their annual Arts and Appetizers fundraiser.  The money will go towards mini-grants for the Brenham campuses.  The board also accepted a donation of $9,315 from the Band Parents.  The donation will be used for the spring band trip to Orlando Florida.

The board also took time to recognize Austin Derkowski as a Commended Student in the 2018 National Merit Scholarship Program.  They also awarded the “You Make a Difference” Award to the Brazos Valley Food Bank”  Each Friday, the group provides bags of food to students at Brenham’s three elementary schools, insuring that they have access to nutritious food over the weekend.
