BRENHAM SCHOOL BOARD MEETS NEXT TUESDAY

The Brenham School Board has moved its regular October meeting up to next Tuesday.  The meeting was originally scheduled for the 16th, but it moved to the 10th due to scheduling conflicts.

At this month’s meeting, trustees will hear a presentation on campus and district improvement plans.  They will also hear updates on the STEM Taskforce, Human Resources, and Student Services.  Trustees will also hear a report on this year’s Champion Drive Program that took place during the County Fair.

Also on the agenda, the board will accept monetary donations from the Brenham Education Foundation and the Brenham Band Parents.

Trustees will also recognize a commended student from the National Merit Scholarship Program and award this month’s “You Make a Difference” award.

The Brenham School Board meets next Tuesday, at 6:00 PM at Brenham High School.

  1. What the School Board really needs to discuss is how the new wave of middle managemement with so called teaching coaches and laxidazal school counslers; that each may have a Master’s Degree, and they have less than five years of teaching experience. This epidemic of costly inefficient and inexperience middle management of our schools is draining and wasting the tax payers money; and, strangling good experienced teachers from doing their jobs and effectively teaching the children in our community. It is time for an overhaul.

    1. As a teacher, I have to agree with: Please discuss what counts !!!!! As an classroom teacher for many years it is not conducive to a successful teaching environment to have appointed positions giving advice when those individuals in those posiitions have little practical experience. Real teachers know that one has to do it before they try to teach it.

    2. A close family member is a teacher and I hear exactly these same comments every day. She used to love teaching and going to work each day. Her scores on state tests were always great and she could work with just about any type of student. Today she is angry and frustrated every day when she comes home due to the issues mentioned above.

Her principal spent very little time in the classroom before being elevated into administration and understands very little about how to maintain discipline on the campus. It has become a joke among the teachers when they are forced to use the precious little amount of conference time they have to attend required meetings with these mid-level managers who could not teach their way out of a box. They are forced to sit there and take it as they are told how to teach and are never asked for their opinion. Having these inexperienced mid-levels condescendingly preach at them does nothing to help and actually hurts morale. I have seen some of the written communications from these folks and was shocked at just how unprofessional some of it was. Experienced teachers have applied for these positions in times past but have been repeatedly turned down because the administration likes to play political games and pick their favorites despite the fact that these people are clueless and do not have a strong educational track record. Something has to change before our schools became a bigger disaster than they already are.

  2. I must be misinterpreting your comment; please tell me the high school still customarily flies the U.S. and Texas flags…

    1. The flags at the High School are hung every morning by the ROTC students and taken down every afternoon to prevent damage to the flags and to show respect.
