BRENHAM SCHOOL BOARD TAKING UP ANGEL GUARDIANS PLAN AGAIN

Tonight (Monday) night the Brenham School Board could hold a vote on one of the most controversial topics that’s ever faced the board—should each campus in the district have one member of its staff armed with a gun.

The Brenham Angel Guardian program has been discussed at length and is on the agenda for the sixth time, when trustees meet tonight(Monday) night.

Trustees have examined the program extensively since it was first proposed back in January.

According to this weekend’s edition of the Brenham Banner Press, Brenham gun advocate John Deans—who originally proposed the Angel Guardian plan—will present an online petition with about 70 signatures in support of the program

A petition, with 301 signatures was presented to the board at their October 21st meeting by the Citizens for Community Progress.  That petition is asking trustees to consider other alternatives such as funding police officers at each campus.

Deans attacked the petition, telling the Banner Press that the people who signed it didn’t read the plan and don’t understand it.

Also at tomorrow’s meeting, the board will hold a public hearing on the district’s Financial Integrity Rating System of Texas score.

The Brenham district received a “superior” rating.

The board will meet at 6 p.m. at the high school.
