BRENHAM SCHOOL BOARD TO HEAR LEGISLATIVE UPDATE

  

The Brenham ISD school board will hear an update on the 85th legislative session during their meeting on Monday.

The school board will meet at 6 p.m. in the Brenham Junior High School Auditorium.

During the last board meeting, Superintendent Walter Jackson shared information on several bills that have been filed in the 85th regular session of the Texas legislature.

Among the bills discussed were House Bill 21, which proposes a plan to overhaul the school funding system, Senate Bill 3, also referred to as the “voucher” bill, and Senate Bill 6 dubbed the “bathroom bill.”

“There are several bills that have been filed that inspire hope” said Jackson. “We will continue to work together with state legislators and the Board of Trustees to strengthen our public schools and ensure a strong future for Brenham ISD and all students in Texas.”

In other business, the school board will consider an approval of the competitive sealed proposal for HVAC labor and miscellaneous equipment for Krause Elementary School.

Krause is undergoing a renovation which includes maintenance and electrical repairs to various areas of the school. The renovation will take place over the next two summer breaks.

The board will also:

  • Consider a number of monetary donations from Krause Elementary School PTO, Texas Art and Music Festival, Baseball Alumni, Softball Alumni, and Brenham Band Parents.
  • Discuss the employment of administrative personnel and teacher contracts
  • Consider a student athletic and catastrophic insurance one year contract extension with Greater East Texas Insurance Associates
  • Consider a contract renewal with ESC VI for student information system used for registration, scheduling, attendance, and gradebook for $38,243
  • Discuss contract renewals with TTVN through Texas A&M for $29,769 and ESC VI for $49,800 as the district’s internet service providers
  • Considers a Brenham High School digital design computer lab refresh
