BRENHAM SCHOOL BOARD TO TALK BUDGET/TAX RATE MONDAY

The Brenham School Board will discuss the upcoming budget and tax rate when they meet Monday at noon.

The board is expected to get the budget for the 2016-17 school year, then set the proposed tax rate.

This year’s budget will include a 3-percent midpoint salary increase at each personnel classification, with a budget impact of just over $773,000.

BISD Director of Business and Finance Kim Horne told the board in June, that she believes the budget can be balanced without an increase to the current tax rate.

The current rate of $1.135 per $100 valuation is expected to remain the same, with $1.04 for operating and maintenance and 9.5-cents for debt payment.

Horne says the district is expected to see an increase in state funding due to an increase in the average daily attendance.

The board will then set the date and time for a public hearing on the proposed budget and tax rate.

Also at Monday’s meeting, the board will hear a presentation of the Gateway Preparatory Academy and discuss Brenham’s designation as a Chapter 41 school district by the Texas Education Agency.

The BISD Board of Trustees will meet Monday at noon at the administrative office at 711 Mansfield.
