BRENHAM TENNIS EARNS MEDALS AT WALLER TOURNAMENT

The Brenham varsity tennis team turned in some outstanding performances in the Waller tennis tournament last week.

The team earned medals in all but one division.

In boys A doubles Nick Summerour and Aren Holt won the consolation title after dropping their first round to Klein Collins.  They beat Sealy 8-1, and Brazos 8-0.

In boys B doubles Andrew Trostle and Gunnar Smith got 1st place.  They beat Klein Forest 8-2, then won against East Bernard 8-1, beat Sealy 8-0, and won against Spring Woods 8-4 in the finals.

In boys A singles Dalton Barron received 2nd place after beating Brazos 8-1, defeating Waller(B) 8-2, but then he lost a tough match in the finals to Waller(A) 5-7, 6-4, (7-10 super tie-breaker).

In boys B singles Hunter Griffin won 1st place beating Westfield 8-0, Caney Creek 8-1, and in the finals winning against Brazos 8-4.

In Girls A singles Kaitlyn Hamilton won consolation,

In girls B singles Kati Murski also won consolation.  Kati lost her first match to Brazos 2-8, but then went on to beat Caney Creek 8-4, and Spring Woods 8-0.

In A mixed double Karlie Weidemann and Spencer Flynn secured 1st place by going undefeated.  They beat Klein Forest 8-5, Spring Woods 8-0, and in the finals beat Klein Collins 8-3.

In girls singles Abby Figueroa earned a 2nd place finish.

Coach Roy Thibodeaux said, “I was so proud by the way everyone competed and gave 100%.  This is one of the best overall performances in a tournament this year and I think we are peaking at the right time, because with only a couple of weeks until our district tournament I feel we are in a good spot.​”

The Cubs and Cubettes will be in action Friday and Saturday at the Kemah Boardwalk Varsity Tournamet.
