BRENHAM TENNIS FALLS TO MAGNOLIA WEST

The Brenham High School tennis team fell to Magnolia West 10-4, Tuesday.

Some highlights for the Cubs were wins by: #1 Girls doubles Karlie Weidemann & Kaitlyn Hamilton, #2 Girls singles Karlie Weidemann, Mixed doubles Kathryn Robinson & Andrew Trostle, and #4 Boys singles Spencer Flynn.

#1 Girls doubles won the pro-set 8-6.  Coach Roy Thibodeaux says it was a back and forth match, “I was impressed how Kaitlyn and Karlie played together and handled everything that was thrown at them. They have been getting better each week and to win at the #1 spot against a good Mag West team is huge.”

Weidemann used that momentum heading into her singles match and won that pro-set 8-6 at the #2 spot.  “She had a great day and really played well under pressure,” said Thibodeaux.  “She was moving very well on the court, going for her shots and taking control of each point.”

Mixed doubles won their match 8-3.  “Andrew and Kathryn played much better this week and were doing everything right.  They were serving well and never allowed the opponent to gain any momentum,” said Thibodeaux.

The only win on the boys’ side was Spencer Flynn at the #4 spot 8-6 in the pro-set.  Thibodeaux was impressed with, “how Spencer stayed the course and secured the win.  He opened up with a lead only to see it dwindle, however he stayed focused and pulled out the win.  Spencer did a good job staying positive and getting the victory.”

Brenham’s next match is at home against Stratford on Tuesday Sept 8th.
