BRENHAM TENNIS OPENS SEASON WITH WIN

The Brenham High School tennis team competed in its first match of the season versus The Bryan Vikings Friday night in Bryan, winning the match 13 to 6.

Securing wins for the Cubs on the boys side were #1 doubles Aren Holt/Nick Sumerour 8-5, #2 doubles Dalton Barron/Gunnar Smith 8-1, and #3 doubles Hunter Griffin/Spencer Flynn 8-3.  "I was impressed with the way the boys came out with a since of urgency and took care of business, said coach Roy Thibodeaux.  “They were focused and played smart."

On the girls’ side in doubles the #1 team of Kaitlyn Hamilton/Karlie Weidemann won 9-7 in a tough match.

"This was a great win for them against a good Bryan team,” said Thibodeaux.  “They rose to the challenge and to see that kind of mental stability so early in the season is a good sign."

Boys singles winners were #2 Dalton Barron 6-1, 6-0. #3 Nick Summerour 6-0, 6-3. #4 Spencer Flynn 6-3, 6-0. #5 Gunnar Smith 6-0, 6-0, #6 Hunter Griffin 6-0, 6-4.

In Girls singles the winners were #1 Kaitlyn Hamilton 7-5, 6-4. #2 Karlie Weidemann 6-3, 6-3.

Thibodeaux said, "this was a great team win.  We have some new faces on our team this year and I was impressed how they performed, and I am also impressed how the veteran players have taken them in and been exceptional role models."

The Varsity tennis team will open district play, Tuesday against Tomball Memorial at 4:00 in Brenham.
