BRENHAM WATER SUPPLY SAFE IN SPITE OF BACTERIA FINDS

City of Brenham water users are getting notifications that there is some bacteria in the city’s water supply, but it’s really nothing to worry about.

The city of Brenham regularly monitors the presence of coliform in its water supply.  They did it again in March and the bacteria was detected in three of the 15 samples.  The water was sampled again at these locations and all the samples collected were found free of coliform bacteria.  The Brenham Utilities Department is letting city water customers know this, even though there is no danger.

Coliforms are bacteria that naturally occur in the environment and are used as indicators that one potentially harmful, bacteria may be present.  The samples that showed the presence of coliform were further tested to see if other bacteria of greater concern, such as fecal coliform of E- Coli were present.  None of these bacteria were found.  You do not need to boil your water and it continues to be safe to drink.
