BRENHAM/MAGNOLIA TENNIS SUSPENDED; WILL FINISH THURSDAY

The district tennis match between Brenham and Magnolia had to be postponed due to darkness.

According to Brenham Coach Roy Thibodeaux, the courts at Magnolia are not equipped with lights so when it got too dark for the players to see the ball they had to stop.

When play ended Magnolia led, 9-7 with three matches in progress.  The match will resume where it left off on Thursday.

Of the three matches that are left, Brenham is leading in two of them, but need all three to secure the win.

The players that are left are #3 Boys singles Nick Summerour, #4 Boys singles Spencer Flynn, and #6 Girls singles Stephanie Rivera.  Coach Thibodeax says, “they know what they have to do and I think they can handle the pressure.”

Securing wins for Brenham already were  #1 boys doubles Aren Holt/Nick Summerour 8-4, #3 boys doubles Hunter Griffin/Spencer Flynn 8-2, and Mixed doubles Kathryn Robinson/Andrew Trostle.

In singles winners were Boys #5 Gunnar Smith 6-4, 6-1.  #6 Hunter Griffin 6-0, 6-2.

On the girls side winners were #1 Kaitlyn Hamilton 6-4, 6-3 and #2 Karlie Weidemann 6-4, 6-7(7-9) (10-3 super tie-breaker).

Coach Thibodeaux says, “hopefully when we resume play we can keep our focus, play hard and pull out the win.”
