BRENHAM’S SUTHERLANDS STORE CLOSING

The Sutherlands store in Brenham is closing.  Store manager Jason Butler said that the company has decided to close the Brenham store and that everything in stock is now 25 percent off.  He said there is no firm date that the store will close, but that when the current inventory is sold down, they will close up.  He added that they will not be receiving any more inventory.

The Brenham Sutherlands store opened in 1996 on Market Street at the location that was formerly a Bud's Discount store.  That building was originally Brenham’s Walmart store.  Butler said that the company has offered each of the employees’ positions at other Sutherlands stores if they choose to relocate.  Sutherlands is primarily a building supply and home improvement store, but in recent years they have ventured into furniture and home decor.

  1. Let’s open up another “go fund me” government agency in Sutherlands spot so we can hand out more pills, stamps, free insurance and hire some new consultants to help run the business. Oh and maybe add a indoor playground for the all the kids!

  2. I’m sorry that Sutherlands is closing now it’s time for progress with Krogers in Brenham which would help families out with competition instead of just H-E-B and Walmart prices to high and would help city of Brenham bring in more people from the outside of Brenham bring inKohls Academy all the hunters farmers that live here more restaurants such as Popeyes Chick-fil-A etc. more tax dollars for city of Brenham this would produce growth not a ghost town

  3. We need more competition such as Chick Fil a Krogers would have better prices then H-E-B or Walmart more savings for all our Families Academy, Kohl’s Ross Popeyes Target etc bring more tax dollars to Brenham

  4. We have always enjoyed your store and staff.
It will certainly be a loss to our City without your Merchandise.
Best of luck in LaGrange and look for us, we truly enjoyed your products.

  5. This is further proof we need new bold leadership in the courthouse. More county funds are needed to provide tax abatements for businesses and developers!

    1. Realtor Guy, you are correct except that the decision to allow tax incentives must come from the City Council and they are not being proactive. They obviously do not care if we have places to shop in Brenham and they do not care if Brenham has new sources of revenue from new construction and retail sales. Their answer is t”raise taxes”.

      1. There are elderly and disabled that cannot afford higher taxes there on fixed income solution bring in tax dollars with companies building here in Brenham such as Krogers, So we have. Competition with the higher prices that H-E-B and Walmart have other such as Academy Ross Kohl’s Chick-fil-A Popeyes many more don’t turn Brenham into a ghost town like the other small towns

  6. I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone that have been in contact with over the last 14 years at Sutherlands. I have made many friends and even met my wife while working at the Brenham store. Brenham has been a very fun and loving town and my family and I will miss it. With family still in the area I look forward to coming back to visit and seeing friendly faces. I would like to encourage everyone to visit our store in la grange.
