BRYAN MAN SENTENCED AFTER THREATENING GIRLFRIEND WITH KNIFE

A Bryan man has been sentenced to eight years in prison after threatening his girlfriend with a knife.

According to the Brazos County District Attorney’s Office, the incident happened back in June of 2012. The victim in the case says 49-year-old David Amaya came home intoxicated and angry.  Amaya accused the victim of cheating on him, and grabbed a knife. He pinned the victim to the bed, squeezed her neck, and repeatedly threatened to kill her while stabbing the bed.

The victim eventually escaped her home, going to a neighbor's house. When the Brazos County Sheriff’s Office arrived, they observed the victim had visible bruising to her neck and scratches from a knife under her chin.

Amaya fled from Texas and was not arrested until 2015 when law enforcement located him in Louisiana.

Assistant District Attorneys Jessica Escue and Ekua Assabill released a statement saying:

“Threats and violence are the tools domestic violence abusers use to control the ones they love. This defendant terrorized his girlfriend, and when she found the courage to cry out for help, he ran to avoid being held accountable. Mr. Amaya could not hide and will spend eight years without the ability to control or terrorize anyone else.”
