BRYAN MAN SENTENCED TO LIFE FOR DOUBLE HOMICIDE

  

A Bryan man has been sentenced to life in prison after a plea hearing for the brutal murders of two women in Brazos County two years ago.

Danny Diaz was sentenced by Judge Kyle Hawthorne in the 85th District Court Wednesday afternoon.

Diaz was charged in May of 2015 with the violent murders of Ashley Garcia and Vanessa Gonzales—both personal acquaintances of Diaz.

The bodies of the women were found on opposite ends of the county. Investigators say Gonzales was run over by her own car, while Garcia was found hours later on Diaz’ brother’s property.  She had been decapitated.

Brazos County District Attorney Jarvis Parsons says they still don't know a motive for the killings.

Parsons said the circumstances didn't meet the criteria for capital murder or the death penalty.

Court records for Brazos County show Diaz has a long criminal history, indicating he was booked into the jail 22 times since 2004.
