BUC MEN FALL AT TRINITY VALLEY, 82-70

Buccaneers get close on several occasions but fall on the road

ATHENS, Texas – Blinn College men’s basketball was within striking distance on several occasions during its game but was unable to come up with the big play as Trinity Valley Community College pulled out an 82-70 victory Wednesday night.

With the loss, Blinn falls to 9-5 overall and 1-4 in Region XIV play.

“We were right there the entire time but we just couldn’t get over the hump,” said Scott Schumacher, Blinn head coach. “This season is more of a marathon than a sprint and we just need to work harder.”

Freshman Antione Lister led the Buccaneers with 16 points while LaKendric Hyson finished with 14 and Kobe Wrice chipped in 11 points in the loss.

Blinn was able to keep it tight with Trinity Valley in the first half but Trinity Valley was able to hit some big shots from outside and collect key offensive rebounds to take a 43-33 lead at the half.

The Buccaneers got off to a slow start in the second half but was able to get the game slightly closer down the stretch. Lister hit some 3-point shots in the closing minutes to get it a little closer but Trinity Valley held on for the 12-point victory.

Blinn will be back home Saturday, Jan. 14 against Navarro College at 4 p.m. Navarro is currently 2-3 in Region XIV through five games.

The game against Navarro will be the Adam’s Angels Ministry fundraiser game in which Blinn raises money and awareness for Adam’s Angels. Adam’s Angels Ministry is called to provide care and comfort for families that are in a battle against childhood cancer. The fundraising effort is part of Blinn’s Adopt-a-Charity program in which all Blinn athletic programs dedicate a portion of their gate proceeds towards a charity.
