BRENHAM, Texas – Blinn College men’s basketball led by as much as 22 points and led by 21 with 7:09 left but let Lone Star College – Cy-Fair within a single point before pulling out a 79-75 victory Wednesday night inside the P.E. Building.

The Buccaneers improved to 4-1 on the season after beating Cy-Fair for the second time on the season.

LaKendric Hyson and James Harrison tied for the team-high with 23 points. Juwan Green also reached double figures with 11 points in the win.

The game started out pretty even as Blinn and Cy-Fair traded baskets for the first 12 minutes. With the game tied at 19-19, the Buccaneers used a 21-2 run near the end of the half to take a 40-21 lead. Hyson scored 15 points in the first half while Harrison added 11 points. Blinn was able to take a 42-24 lead into halftime.

Blinn kept the momentum going by coming out strong and jumped out to a 57-35 lead after a layup by Hyson. A basket by Harrison later in the half gave the Buccaneers a 65-44 lead with 7:09 left in the game.

Instead of Blinn coasting to an easy victory, Cy-Fair put up a fight and at one point hit five unanswered 3-pointers to get within 65-59 with 4:54. Cy-Fair never took the lead but got within one point and had a couple looks at a game-tying shot in the final minute but Blinn was able to hold on for the victory.

Blinn will hit the road on Saturday, Nov. 19 against Victoria College at 4 p.m.

Before the game, Blinn head coach Scott Schumacher was honored with a plaque for winning his 500th game as a head coach by Blinn College president Mary Hensley, Blinn Board of Trustees president David Sommer and president of the Buccaneer Alumni Lettermen Association Kevin Bosse.
