BUC WOMEN FALL IN NON-CONFERENCE ACTION

Blinn College women’s basketball couldn’t recover from a slow start in a 70-55 loss to the Adelaide Blue Devils on Monday night inside the Kruse Center.

Kyler Wyatt

“Allowing 40 points in the first half put us in catch-up mode for the rest of the game,” said Jeff Jenkins, Blinn head coach. “We have to do a better job getting defensive stops and we need to learn that taking care of the ball on offense and taking better shots will help our defense.”

With the loss, Blinn falls to 6-4 overall.

Kyler Wyatt was the only Buccaneer to reach double digits as she led Blinn with 12 points. Jade Rochelle followed with nine points, Rayanna Carter chipped in eight points, and Alanna Spencer and Missy Archie each tossed in seven points.

The Buccaneers and Adelaide played a close first quarter as the Buccaneers only trailed by six, 21-15, heading into the second quarter. It was in the second quarter that Adelaide took off with the momentum to score 19 points while holding Blinn to eight. The Buccaneers trailed 40-28 at the half.

Although the Buccaneers outscored Adelaide in the third quarter, 18-15, Adelaide held a nine-point lead going into the final quarter. Leading 55-46 into the fourth quarter, Adelaide built on its lead to seal a 70-55 victory.

Blinn will travel to Panola College to resume conference play on Wednesday, Dec. 6 at 5:30 p.m. The Buccaneers hold a 1-2 Region XIV record.
