BUC WOMEN FALL TO TEMPLE, 71-68

Temple College scores first 15 points of the game in Blinn loss

TEMPLE, Texas – Temple College women’s basketball came out scoring the first 15 points of the game and Blinn was still able to make a game of it in the end but fell in Temple 71-68 on Nov. 19.

Blinn College had their chance to tie the game in the end with a 3-pointer but a turnover on the final possession proved costly and Temple was able to hang on. The Buccaneers trailed 34-27 at the half.

Katelynn Johnson led the Buccaneers with 18 points as she hit four shots from behind the arc. Moe Bedford had 13 points and Shakera Barnes had 13 points for Blinn with the help of two 3-pointers. Micarah Malone and Nancy Warioba each had eight points in the loss.

The free throw line was another telling statistic for Blinn as they went to the foul line only eight times, making five while Temple shot 32 foul shots and made 21 of those. Blinn head coach Jeff Jenkins said that putting Temple to the line that many times hurt the team’s chances of winning.

“We have got to do a better job of not fouling,” Jenkins said. “We are going to make a lot of mistakes right now but I just want us to play hard.”

Defensive effort was lacking for Blinn in the opening minutes as Temple jumped out to a 15-0 lead but the Buccaneers cut away at the deficit after that.

Jenkins did say that the Temple game was the best for Bedford since returning from an Achilles tendon injury and that Malone turned in a solid performance as well.

Blinn, now 4-3 after the loss, will begin conference play by hosting Bossier Parish on Nov. 22 for a game at 4 p.m.
