BUC WOMEN LET LEAD SLIP AWAY IN LOSS TO PANOLA

Buccaneers let lead slip away in fourth to Panola, 85-80

Blinn allows 31 points in pivotal fourth quarter

CARTHAGE, Texas – Blinn College women’s basketball uncharacteristically allowed 31 points in the fourth quarter and was unable to hold on to its lead in an 85-80 loss to Panola College Wednesday night.

Jade Rochelle

With the loss, Blinn falls to 16-8 on the season and 9-5 in Region XIV play.

The Buccaneers were led in scoring by Jade Rochelle with 17 points. Ke’Asia Williams and Jasmine Redmon each scored 14 while Brenisha Coleman also reached double figures with 11 points. Jasline Chandler chipped in eight points and Daikea Milton scored six points in the loss.

Blinn and Panola started out fairly equal as Panola held a 19-18 lead after the first. The Buccaneers got going in the second quarter, outscoring Panola 20-13 to take a 38-32 at the half.

It was a tight third quarter but Blinn still managed to extend its lead to 61-54 heading into the fourth. The final quarter is where the wheels came off for the Buccaneers as turnovers and poor defense allowed Panola to come-from-behind and outscore Blinn 31-19 to earn the five-point victory.

“Until we stop turning the ball over then we aren’t going to win the close game,” said Jeff Jenkins, Blinn head coach.

Blinn will look to bounce back on the road with a game against No. 19 San Jacinto College-North on Saturday, Feb. 11 at 2 p.m. San Jacinto sits just above Blinn in the Region XIV standings with a 10-4 record.
