Blinn College women’s basketball used its balance to score the first 14 points of the game and coasted to an 81-33 victory over Victoria College Saturday afternoon inside the P.E. Building.

The Buccaneers improved to 12-5 overall with their seventh consecutive victory. Blinn’s Region XIV record stays at 5-2.

“This is the one game of the year that we should win and I thought our effort was good,” said Jeff Jenkins, Blinn head coach. “I really like that everybody got to play.”

Twelve different players scored for Blinn as Alexis Oaks closed out the game strong with nine in the fourth to lead the Buccaneers with 16 points. Ke’Asia Williams was the only other player to reach double figures in scoring with 10 points. Abigail Whyte, Bryanna Taylor, Brenisha Coleman and Jade Rochelle each scored eight points in the victory.

“We really tried to work on our plays and stay in a rhythm on offense,” Oaks said. “I felt good on offense because I got to push the ball on offense.”

Blinn couldn’t have asked for a better start after scoring the first 14 points of the game. Coleman helped to set the tone early with eight points in the first. The Buccaneers held a 20-6 lead after one.

Blinn kept the momentum going as Oaks was able to get some buckets with her speed and scored seven points in the second quarter. The Buccaneers outscored Victoria 19-9 in the second to take a 39-15 lead at the break.

It was more of the same in the third as Williams and Taylor each scored eight points in the third to keep the momentum. Blinn outscored Victoria 24-13 to claim a 63-28 heading into the fourth quarter. Oaks helped to finish off the game strong with nine points in the final quarter as the Buccaneers cruised to the 48-point victory.

Blinn will hit the road on Wednesday, Jan. 18 to face Angelina College at 5:30 p.m. Angelina is 4-2 in Region XIV play through six games.
