BUCCANEERS FALL TO NORTHEAST TEXAS 9-4

Brandon Ashy went 4-for-4 to lead Blinn’s offense despite loss

HUNTSVILLE, Texas — Blinn College baseball managed 13 hits against Northeast Texas Community College, but couldn’t get enough runs across the plate as the Buccaneers fell by the score of 9-4 to the Eagles in Friday night’s game played at Sam Houston State University.

Ashy went 4-for-4 and scored one run to lead the offense, while Blair went 2-for-2 and scored two runs and Sanchez went 2-for-2 and scored one run. Cherry and Bailey each went 1-for-1. Northeast Texas was the first on the board after scoring one run in the first inning and gained a 2-0 advantage after adding another run in the fifth inning.
The Buccaneers were able to even the score 2-2 in the bottom of the fifth inning. Ashy sparked the offense with a single and Sanchez followed with a walk. Following a wild pitch that moved Ashy and Sanchez both into scoring position, Collins hit a two-run single to level the score.
Northeast Texas was quick to answer back with a run in the top of the sixth inning to take back a 3-2 lead. The Eagles tacked on two more runs in the seventh inning to pull ahead 5-2.
In the seventh inning, Blair and Ashy led off the inning with back-to-back singles. Blair and Ashy moved into scoring position and a sacrifice fly off the bat of Bohnert allowed Blair to come home for Blinn’s third run.

The Buccaneers came up with back-to-back hits to lead off the ninth inning. Blair led off with a double, while Bailey followed with a single to put runners on corners. With one out, Cherry hit a one-run double for Blair to score, but that would be the final run for the Buccaneers in the game as they fell 9-4.
With the loss, Blinn’s overall record falls to 2-3.
