Buccaneers top Snead State in second game of Galveston Invitational, 4-2

Blinn drops first and third game to finish day 1-2

GALVESTON, Texas – In its best game of the day, Blinn College softball jumped out to a 4-0 lead and held on for a 4-2 victory over Snead State Community College in the Galveston College Invitational Friday.

That would be the only victory in three games for the Buccaneers as they fell 5-2 to Louisiana State University-Eunice and 15-9 to Seminole State College to start the season 1-2.

Nicole Garcia led Blinn against Snead with a pair of singles and a run while Meghann Wrinkle, Katie Andrie and Jordin Wilkins each knocked in a run. Sam Junkin pitched all seven innings in the win by only allowing six hits while striking out four.

Blinn did a lot of damage in the third when Kalli Edwards and Garcia singled with one out. Edwards scored the first run and then Wrinkle singled to make the score 2-0. Wrinkle later scored after a single by Andrie for a 3-0 lead.

The Buccaneers added an insurance run in the sixth when Andrie reached on an error and Wilkins later knocked her in with a double to left for a 4-0 lead. Snead added a couple runs in the seventh but Junkin was able to close out the complete game victory.

Blinn allowed Eunice to grab an early 3-0 lead in the first inning and was unable to recover and lost 5-2 in the first game of the day. Andrie had a solid game in the loss, going 3-for-3 with a double and a run scored. Cheyenne Trader knocked in two runs in the loss. Bobbi Berkey pitched all six innings and only allowed two earned runs in the loss.

The game between Seminole and Blinn was more back and forth but it was Seminole coming away with more runs in the end in the third game.

Garcia had a strong game against Seminole by going 3-for-4 with a double, an RBI and she scored two runs. Wrinkle, Lauren Silver, Wilkins, Courtney White and Trader each picked up two hits. Wrinkle and White each hit a home run in the loss.
