BUCS DROP A PAIR OF GAMES AT ALVIN

Buccaneers fall to 2-4 in conference with the losses

 

ALVIN, Texas – Blinn College baseball dropped a pair of games to Alvin Community College by the score 8-2 and 6-5 Thursday afternoon in Alvin.

The losses drop the overall record for Blinn to 9-8 and 2-4 in Region XIV play.

Alvin 8 – Blinn 2

Blinn actually scored the first run in the opening game but the momentum quickly switch to Alvin with seven unanswered runs to eventually take an 8-2 victory over the Buccaneers.

Austen Swift had the only extra-base hit for Blinn with a home run and he added a single as well while knocking in one of Blinn’s two runs. Elijah MacNamee was a tough out, going 3 for 3 with three singles and an RBI in the loss. Jay Anderson had two singles as three Blinn players accounted for seven total hits in the lineup.

Blinn got on the board first in the third inning when Anderson started it with a one-out single and was brought in to score with a single by MacNamee to right to give the Buccaneers a 1-0 lead. Alvin countered with two runs in the third and five in the fifth to take a 7-1 lead.

Swift started the sixth inning with a solo home run for the second run for Blinn but that would be the final run scored for the Buccaneers as Alvin tacked on an additional run in the sixth for the six-run victory.

Alvin 6 – Blinn 5

Blinn hit the ball much better in the second game and scored the first three runs and held a 5-2 in the seventh but Alvin scored the final four runs to earn the sweep with the 6-5 victory over the Buccaneers.

Trent Murphy had a big day at the plate with a pair of solo home runs and a single with two RBIs. MacNamee hits two doubles and a single while scoring twice. Swift had a 3 for 5 game with three singles while George Pappas had a double in the loss.

Blinn started the second game on the right path as Murphy started off the second inning with solo home run for a 1-0 lead. The scoring continued in the third when MacNamee started the inning with a double and then scored on a ground out for the second run. Murphy added his second consecutive solo home run to give the Buccaneers a 3-0 lead. Alvin did get one run in the third and fifth innings to get within 3-2.

Blinn was able to add a little cushion to its lead in the sixth when MacNamee hit a one-out double. Angel De La Fuente singled to left to make the score 4-2 and Swift later scored in the inning for the fifth run. Unfortunately, that would be the final run scored by the Buccaneers as Alvin scored two runs in the seventh and eighth innings to steal away the victory.

Blinn will get a double-header rematch at home against Alvin on Saturday, March 5 starting at 2 p.m. These games are also the Blinn College Alumni & Friends/Lettermen’s Association game with a tailgate party with free food and games at the ballpark before the game starting at noon.
