BUCS DROP OPENER AT REGION TOURNEY
Buccaneers fall to Navarro in Region XIV opener
LUFKIN, Texas – The Navarro Lady Bulldogs rallied from two deficits to disrupt an upset bid by the Blinn softball team here Thursday.
Navarro rallied from 8-6, then 10-8 in the bottom of the eighth to down the Buccaneers 11-10 in the Region XIV Conference Tournament opener. The loss knocks the Bucs to the losers’ bracket Friday at 10 a.m. against Trinity Valley. A win and Blinn advances, a loss and the team’s season is over.
Freshman Alli Spivey walked with the bases loaded to give the Bucs the go-ahead, 9-8, in the top of the eighth, and a sacrifice fly from Peyton Webb made it a 10-8 game. The Lady Bulldogs, the No. 1 seed out of the East Zone, promptly responded in the bottom half of the frame by loading the bases with no outs. A sacrifice fly to left field ended the game.
